Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary Loans

The Interlibrary Loan service can source items for you if they are not available from our own print or digital stock.

What is the Interlibrary Loan service?

If you are unable to find what you want in our print stock or via NELSON, you can apply to our Interlibrary Loan Service to source the material for you.

We are able to supply

  • Books
  • Chapters
  • Journal Articles
  • Conference Reports

This service is available to all University of Northampton students, staff and researchers.

How to request an Interlibrary Loan

Check that the item is not already available via a NELSON search

Submit your request via the Interlibrary Loan form. Users will need their student/staff ID and library PIN number.

Select the type of resource required on the right hand side of the form or follow the links in the Further Information box below.

* Please note that all requests should be for academic material that relates to your field of study.

Further Information

You will be notified by email when your Interlibrary Loan book is ready for collection.

Collect your book from the Information Point at Park Library.

The return date of the item is shown on the Interlibrary Loan slip in your book and is also shown on your library account.

You may be able to request a renewal of the Interlibrary Loan to extend your borrowing time. You must contact the Interlibrary Loan service prior to the renewal date who will investigate if this is possible.

Return your Interlibrary Loan to the Information Point in Park Library.

Please do not put the book through the book sorter.

You can make an ILL book request online.

Before submitting an ILL request for a journal article, please check NELSON to make sure that the item is not already available to you.

An ILL article can be delivered to you in a variety of ways:

  • A print version can be posted to you.
  • A digital version can be sent via Secure Electronic Delivery (SED) to your supplied email address if the article is sourced from the British Library.
  • Staff may receive print copies to their departmental address.

Our Interlibrary Loan service sources items from the British Library, health libraries, academic libraries within the UK and abroad and private libraries. Their response time to our requests can vary greatly. Our advice is to allow plenty of time for your request to be fulfilled and we will make every effort to ensure you receive your items as soon as possible.
