What does the new system mean for me?

On 12 July Library and Learning Services will go live with the first component of our new library platform and following on from this we will also launch our new integrated Reading List system (Leganto) on 18 July.

On the surface, NELSON library search will not change much, but under the bonnet, NELSON will be being powered by a different library system, which will be able to deliver more for students and staff, including:

  • a single unified account with a single login for all library functions, which will enable you to view your loans, reservations, requests, favourited items, alerts and search history, all in one place
  • the ability to place inter-library loan requests, reservations and scan and deliver requests, all from within the NELSON interface, without the need to use other systems and forms
  • an integrated Reading List system, which will improve the purchasing of books and resources needed by students and staff

As part of the new library system implementation, we recommend anyone who uses and relies on NELSON saved records (pinned favourites), should export them to ensure you have continued access to this data.  This must be done no later than Wednesday 6 July, 2022.

What are the key dates I need to know?

From Thursday 7 July 2022 to after Tuesday 12 July 2022.

You will be able to borrow books although our self-service machines will be out of action while upgrades take place. Just come along to the Library Help Desk on the second floor of the Learning Hub and tell the library staff what you wish to borrow.

You will be able to access NELSON to search for print books and access electronic full text ebooks and journals. However, you won’t be able to access your online library accounts to renew your books, check what you have on loan or to save records on NELSON.

You will be able to renew your books by contacting libraryhelp@northampton.ac.uk, by using our chat service that you can find on our website and AskUs, by phoning us on 01604 893089 or by popping in to see us on the 2nd floor of the Learning Hub.

Academic staff will receive a separate email explaining actions we need you to take around Aspire reading lists.

What else do I need to know? (For Academic Staff)

Aspire Reading Lists

The deadline for any changes to Aspire reading lists is Sunday 10 July, 2022. After this date the reading lists will be frozen to prepare for the data migration to Leganto.

Only published lists and published items will be migrated from Aspire to the Leganto reading list system. Draft lists will not be migrated.

If you wish to take across your reading list into Leganto, you need to make sure the list is published and that any new items you have added within it are also published by Sunday 10 July, 2022. Follow these instructions to publish your reading list and contact readinglists@northampton.ac.uk if you need help publishing your list.

In addition, your personal Aspire bookmarks will not be exported into Leganto. If you wish to retain details of your Aspire bookmarks, please follow these instructions on how to export your Aspire bookmark data and ensure the data is exported by 10 July.

NELSON

InterLibrary Loans

The InterLibrary Loan service will temporarily be suspended from 6th-13th July 2022. You will not be able to make requests at this time. Please note, if you have a book on loan from us and return it during this period, it will not come off your account until after the 12th July. If you have any general queries about InterLibrary loans, please contact libloan@northampton.ac.uk
