Business Systems and Operations Subject Guide

An Academic Librarian guide for students

Plagiarism is the act of taking another person’s work and passing it off as your own, which amounts to theft. This includes information from web pages, books, songs, television shows, interviews, articles, artworks or any other medium. Whenever you paraphrase, summarise, or take words, phrases, or sentences from another person’s work, it is necessary to indicate the source of the information within your work and in a bibliography at the end. This is called referencing

Most business programmes at the University of Northampton use the the Harvard System for referencing. If you need any help with your referencing, you can contact an Academic Librarian or a Learning Development tutor for advice.

There is a video, created by Bainbridge College,  should help you to understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid it.
