Academic Services: Digitisation

Digitisation Service

The Digitisation Service can scan book chapters and journal articles to create digital copies for use by your students for specific modules.

What is the Digitisation Service?

The Digitisation team can scan book chapters and journal articles which are added to your module's Aspire reading list.

The service operates under the Copyright Licensing Agency's Higher Education Licence for photocopying and scanning.

Subject to permission, we can digitise the following for each module

  • one chapter or 10% of a book, whichever is greater
  • one article of a journal issue
  • one paper of one set of conference proceedings
  • one short story or poem of not more than 10 pages in an anthology of short stories or poems.

You can request the same chapter or article for multiple modules.

How to request a digitised item

Check that the item is not already held in electronic format via a NELSON search.

Submit your request via the Digitisation Request Form ensuring that you fill in all of the mandatory fields.

The password is uon.

The benefits of digitisation

Providing digitised texts via the University's Digitisation Service

  • Makes key texts available to all students irrespective of cohort size
  • Provides access to material the library does not hold
  • Ensures that we comply with copyright agreements including the annual audit

How long will my request take?

Our Digitisation Service sources high quality scans from the British Library and often resources not held in our library stock. Our advice is to allow plenty of time for your request to be fulfilled and we will make every effort to ensure you receive your items as soon as possible.
