When you’re working on a bigger project, like a dissertation, your literature search may take you beyond the resources held in your library. If you want to access resources that aren’t held in the UON Library you can either choose to order the resource through interlibrary loan (or ‘Get This Form Me’ from November 2025) or you can choose to visit the resources in another University Library, through the SCONUL Access scheme. These are explained below.
This is a free request service for UON staff and students.
Where we do not hold a resource in library stock, that you need to support you in your academic studies or research, you can make a request to our Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service. We will either obtain it from another organisation or purchase the item for our library stock.
From November 2025 the Inter-Library Loan service will become part of a new Get It For Me service. All requests for Inter-Library Loans, Scan and Deliver, and Request a Book will be made through a single Get It For Me form on NELSON.
Under the SCONUL Access scheme, students and staff of member institutions can visit other libraries to access books, resources and study spaces. Most university libraries in the UK and Ireland are part of the scheme. The level of access you can have, depends on what type of student you are.
