Essential Teaching Technology for Academics: An Introduction to NILE

Essential Teaching Technology for Academics is a practical, hands-on introduction to NILE, the University's digital campus. The course is run by the Learning Technology Team, and is designed for academic staff who are new to the University.

Outline of the workshop

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to: 

  • Identify Original and Ultra courses and explain the key differences between them; 
  • Find and use the NILE Design Standards to help set out their NILE courses; 
  • Create folders and learning modules in Ultra courses, and folders in Original courses;  
  • Add/upload/insert/create various types of content in their courses, including files on their computers, content items/Ultra documents, images, and Kaltura and YouTube videos; 
  • Set up and run a basic Collaborate session from their course; 
  • Communicate with their students from their NILE course using announcements and emails/messages; 
  • Add an assignment submission point and access the appropriate workflows to help them understand how grading, feedback and verification should be done; 
  • Use collaborative/interactive tools in their NILE courses, e.g., discussions, journals, Padlets; 
  • Find and contact their learning technologist; 
  • Find and make use of the Learning Technology Team websites and FAQs. 

There will also be plenty of opportunity to chat with members of the Learning Technology Team, and to find out more about the various technologies that we support.
