How to create a group in Blackboard

Log in to your NILE account.

Navigate to the My Courses box on the Blackboard Home page and select your module title.

Locate the Courses Management section of the module navigation menu

Expand the Users and Groups section listed beneath the Control Panel menu.

Select the Groups link.

Select the Create item from the menu bar.

Select Manual Enrol from the Group Set menu.

In the Group Information screen, enter the word Group into the Name box.

Enter a description of the group into the Description text box.

Select the check box to make the group visible to members of the group.

In Tool Availability select the check boxes to manage the tools available to the groups.

Enter 100 into the Grade: Points Possible boxes if any student engagement will be graded.

In the Box Personalisation Setting section, select or deselect the check box to Allow Personalization.

In Group Set Options section, enter the number of Groups to be created.

Select the check box to create a Grade Centre smart view for this group.

In the Group Set Enrolments select the box to Hide members already in another group in this set.

If you want to randomise membership of the groups then select the Randomise Enrolments button.

Rename the group by entering a new name in the Name text entry box.

Select the Add Users box to add members to each group.

TIP: If you want to use Student Preview to review your group assessment from a student perspective, remember to add your staff_PreviewUser username as a participant to a group. 

Select the Delete Group button if a group is no longer needed.

Select Submit to proceed.

In the Groups dashboard, manage the group by selecting the drop-down menu beside a group name.

How to create a Blackboard Group Assignment

Log in to Blackboard by entering your University username and password into the Login to NILE box.

Navigate to the My Courses box on the Blackboard Home page and select your module title.

Select the Submit your Work item from the module navigation menu.

Select Assessments from the menu bar.

Select the Assignment item from the Assessments menu.

Name the Assignment based on the Assessment ID and description listed in your module or assignment specifications.

Enter student guidance into the Instructions text box.

Upload any files required to complete the assignment using the Attach Files section.

Select a submission Due Date and time using the date and time pickers.

In the Grading section, enter 100 into the Points Possible text box.

Use the Add Rubric button to attach an existing rubric or create a new Blackboard rubric.

Select Group Submission from the radio buttons in the Submission Details section.

Select all of the Groups that will need to complete the assessment.

Select the number of submission attempts from the Number of Attempts drop-down menu.

Under Grading Options ensure the  checkboxes are unselected.

In the Display of Grades section, select the Primary Display as either UnderGrad Letter or PostGrad Letter.

Check the box labeled Include in Grade Centre grading calculations.

Uncheck the box labeled Show to Students in My Marks.

Choose to make the Assignment available to students based on the Display After and Display Until settings.

Use the date picker to select date to make the Assignment visible to students.

Check the box labeled Show to Students in My Grades.

Select the Submit button to finish or select Cancel to quit without saving changes.

In the Availability section select the submission point availability. This section does not affect an Assignment's Due Date.

Select the Submit button to finish or select Cancel to quit without saving changes.
