The University has a Health and Safety Committee organisation in place with Committees for each of the faculties and the professional services functions.
The role of the Health and Safety Committee is to provide a formal forum for management and staff to consult on Health and Safety matters and to work together on solving Health and Safety problems and issues, such as reviewing accidents, Health and Safety training and the Health and Safety implications of plans and decisions to ensure that the correct precautions are being taken.
The University's Health and Safety Committees are 'recognised Committees' under statute, meaning the trades unions are invited to send their representatives to attend as part of the Committees' consultative objectives. The scope of the University's Committee structure also includes security and community safety topics.
The Committees meet once a term, and receive reports from the Faculties, Professional Services and the Health and Safety and Security and Community Safety teams on Health and Safety performance and other relevant topics.
Specialist working groups may also be set-up to address specific topics or risks. These working groups will have an agreed scope or objectives and may be time-limited and will report updates to the sponsoring Committee.
The Committee is the principal consultative Committee on Health and Safety and security topics.
