Original Workflow 3: Blackboard Test

Information for Staff

Deploying a Blackboard Test with the correct options.

Test Options are setup and edited in the content area when setting up a link to the test.

Go to the Content area where you want your test to be taken and in the 'Assessments' drop-down select 'Test'

You then click on  the test you want to deploy which should be in the 'Select Test Below' box and press the 'Submit' button.

This will open up the Test Options page, The Options can be changed later by going into the small chevron menu on the Right of the Test Link in the content area and select 'Edit the Test Options'

You will see a list of options, the first box will be the 'Name' box. This should be filled in automatically by the Title you gave to the Test Canvas when you created it, however you can change the Name if you wish.

The next box is the 'Content Link Description' box, this is what the students will see, beside the link they press on to enter the test,

The next Options are 2 tick boxes to Show the Test Description and to Show Instructions, to the students before they start the test, we recommend both be shown by ticking both boxes

The next option is 'Open test in new window', we would suggest selecting 'No'

The Next Section is 'Test Availability

Next Option is 'Make available to students'. If you you want to open it manually just as the students are about to take the test then select 'Yes'. Also if you are going to release the test to open automatically on a given date and time, using Adaptive Release then you need to select 'Yes'. Otherwise select 'No' so the students do not have access to the test, and you can open it later.

The next Option is 'Add a new announcement for this test'

The next set of Boxes control the options students have of taking the test

The top box is 'Multiple Attempts' if you leave it Unticked then the students only get a single attempt

If you tick the box you have the option to 'Allow Unlimited Attempts' or 'Number of Attempts' which will open a field where you define how many attempts the students get to take the test

Optional settings test availability

The next option only becomes available when multiple attempts are offered, 'Score attempts using - '  The options are: Last graded Attempt,  Highest Grade,  Lowest Grade,  First Graded Attempt,  Average of Graded Attempts.

The next Option is 'Force Completion' if not ticked then the students can come out and go back into the test and finish it off.

It is recommended not to select Force Completion. By not selecting Force Completion you allow students to complete the test if they have any technical problems: they can finish their test without any change of settings by the staff, and the time limit if set, will still apply.

The next Option is 'Set Timer' this is set in minutes and sets how long the students have to sit the test.

The next Option is 'Auto-Submit'  and the options of OFF or ON

The next options are '' and '' where you have the option to make the test available and hidden automatically, you can set an exact date and time for each. (Enter dates as dd/mm/yyyy. Time may be entered in any increment.)

The next Option is to set a 'Password', Tick the box and enter the Password, this is case-sensitive. You can then give it to the students immediately before the test.

This can also be used to give a student additional time if they have a technical problem, However if 'Force Completion' is set the student will need to get another attempt with only the Remaining time to be set, from the point they had the problem.
