If you wish to build up a score against certain criteria, then a Turnitin grading form may help you do so in a transparent way. At UoN, the criteria used could be the learning outcomes or a further breakdown of those learning outcomes for the assignment, with a suitable weighting. Both comments and a score can be added against each criterion. The total score possible should always be 100. With the grade centre set to use the Undergraduate Letter grade, the score will automatically convert to a letter grade for both student view and for sending to the student records team.
NOTE
Please ensure that you have the appropriate letter grade schema applied to the grade centre column. See the earlier section of this guide 'Setting up the grade centre' for further information if you are not familiar with this feature.
In your NILE course, go to Course Tools, Turnitin Assignments
Click on the title of one of the Turnitin Assignments
Click on the Libraries tab. You may wish to right-click on the libraries tab and open in a new window for a clearer view.
Navigate to the Rubric Manager tab, which is located just below the Libraries tab.
Click on the Rubric List icon and select the option Create new grading form from the menu.
Edit the title of the grading form so that you can locate it easily later on. Enter a title and optionally a description for each criterion or learning outcome. When using the form to build a score, it is essential to record the maximum points possible in either the title or description for each criterion. This will then be displayed to other markers and the students.
Ensure that the checkbox to enable scoring is ticked. This is located at the bottom of the form.
The save button at the bottom of the form will commit your changes. It is recommended to save regularly while you create the form.
Once you have saved your Turnitin grading form, you can attach it to multiple Turnitin assignments to use for marking. Ensure that the grading form is correct before you begin to use it, as it cannot be easily edited whilst in use. Once it is attached to an assignment, all instructor users of the NILE course can see and use it during the grading process.
Turnitin grading forms belong to the person who created them. Once a grading form is attached to a Turnitin assignment, all instructors on the NILE module are able to use it for marking. The guidance below shows you one way to attach a Turnitin grading form:
In your NILE course, go to Course Tools, Turnitin Assignments
Click on the title of the Turnitin Assignment
On the Edit Assignment tab, choose Optional Settings
At the bottom of the optional settings, use the drop-down menu and choose your grading form. Use the Submit button to save your changes.
The grading form will now be available for all instructors on the NILE course to use for marking.
Marking with grading forms provides a structure for comments and scores aligned to a set of criteria or learning outcomes. The points possible per grading form should add up to 100, to allow for the conversion of a score into a letter grade.
In the Feedback Studio view, click on the Rubric symbol from the menu on the right.
You can either fill out the form in the sidebar panel view or open a new window with a full-size view using the expand button.
In the sidebar view, the points possible that you entered in the title or description for each criterion, are displayed in the lower section of the panel.
Enter feedback comments and a point value for each criterion. When ready, use the Apply to Grade button to save the score as the grade for that student.
The expanded view has all the same features, but might be a little easier to navigate than the side panel.
The chosen feedback will now be allocated to that submission. The other grade tools are also available for use, including overall grade, quick marks, and feedback summary.
