Information for Students

Accessing content in NILE in alternative formats

Wherever you see the following icon in a NILE course, you can transform the content into a number of alternative formats using the Ally tool.

Ally takes accessible content in your NILE courses and transforms it into a number of formats to better suit you. The available formats are:

  • ePub
  • Electronic braille
  • Audio
  • Beeline Reader
  • Immersive Reader

Immersive Reader is the most powerful and flexible of the alternative format options, and can:

  • Change the text font and size
  • Change the text background colour
  • Read text back to you
  • Divide words into syllables and highlight parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives)
  • Activate line focus reading

To see how to transform NILE Ultra content using Immersive Reader and to view the range of options available in Immersive Reader, please see our Immersive Reader video (link below). Also linked below are guides about how to use Microsoft's Read Aloud tool and Immersive Reader when using Word documents outside of NILE, plus a guide to all of the accessibility features in all of Microsoft's Office applications.
