Going beyond the Library

Don't worry, there are other options you can use to obtain the information you need for your assignments, research or dissertations.

There are 3 ways of finding and obtaining information beyond the Library:

• Using the Inter-Library Loan Service
• Using other Library Catalogues
• SCONUL Access Scheme.

If you are unable to find what you want in our print stock or via NELSON, you can apply to our free Inter-Library Loan Service to source the material for you.

We are able to supply:

• Conference Reports.

• British Library Catalogue: This is a copyright library which receives a copy of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland. The collection includes well over 150 million items, in most known languages and 3 million new items are added every year.
• COPAC National, Academic & Specialist Library Catalogue: COPAC bringing together the catalogues of over 100 major UK and Irish libraries (and growing). In a single search you can discover the holdings of the UK’s national libraries (including the British Library), many University libraries, and specialist research libraries.
• WorldCat: This connects you to the collections and services of more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.
• EThOS: Allows you to search over 480,000 doctoral theses. Download instantly for your research, or order a scanned copy quickly and easily.

SCONUL Access is a scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme.

You may also find this scheme helpful if you’d like to have access to another higher education library during your summer vacation.
