POD1109 Digital Footprints session guide: Home

Session overview

Welcome to the workshop Digital Footprints and Ethical Use of Information. This workshop is designed in two parts:

  1. Understanding the Digital Footprint.
  2. Answering your referencing questions.

During the workshop, you will take part in activities to help you to learn about how to use social media as a professional. The workshop will also help you to improve your knowledge and confidence of UON Harvard Referencing. We will build on the information you learned during the pre-sessional activities. Remember, you can always revisit them on NILE if you need to.

I'll tell you when and how to access the activities, working through the sections of this Libguide.

Digital Footprints Activity

What can you find out about someone on the internet?

Choose a number, which represents a person working in a health profession in the UK. Use the search engines and social media to see what you can find out about your person

  • Take 5 minutes to search for your chosen person.
    • Who are they?
    • What do they do?
    • Where are they from?
    • Anything surprising/interesting?

Helpful hints

  • You can use search for the name of your person as a phrase “Mickey Mouse”
  • If there are a lot of people with the same name you can add nurse / health to your search
    • E.g. “Mickey Mouse” nurse
  • Try and find some interesting facts about your person
