Introduction to Legal Research: Home

Welcome!

This site has been created to help you get started with legal research and introduce you to the key resources that are available.

Legal Information Guide

The following interactive guide takes you through the library collections for law. This includes both online and print resources. This guide has been designed that you can work from beginning to end, or select the different sections that are relevant to you whilst undertaking research for your assessments.

It is recommended that you open this in full screen and use the arrows to navigate through the pages. The contents page may also be opened by clicking on the dashed lines top left.

Key databases for legal research

Books are a good starting point for research and a key e-book database for law is Law Trove. This database is easy to navigate and covers many of the module areas you will be studying. The search box is a helpful way to navigate the books on this platform.

The other main databases for law are Westlaw and Lexis. Both of these contain a range of information. The videos below will help you to locate specific information using these databases.

Westlaw Certification training

If you are an LLB student, it would be a good idea to take the Westlaw Certification training as this can help you to develop your research skills and assist with your career.
