From September 2025, the University of Northampton will begin using Cite Them Right Harvard, and UON Harvard will be phased out. However, if you are a returning student you can continue using UON Harvard for the duration of your programme, if you prefer or you can move to using Cite Them Right Harvard. If you wish to continue using UON Harvard, you will find links to our old guidance below.
There are some specific benefits to Cite Them Right Harvard. For example, if you want to use a reference management tool, such as RefWorks, MyBib, Zotero or Mendeley, you will find that Cite Them Right Harvard is provided as an output style across all of these tools. Cite Them Right Harvard also incorporates the use of DOIs (digital object identifiers) into the reference, where they are available. Overall, Cite Them Right Harvard is very similar to UON Harvard, but there are some small differences, so we have created a comparison table showing the key differences.
