Why do I need to think about ethics?

Research is to ask questions, sometimes hard questions, and that sometimes challenges what other people think. They also sometimes involve real people and their opinions, through questionnaires or interviews. This all comes under the heading of Ethics. When you are dealing with people’s data, you have to be especially careful that you are doing that ethically and safely.
