Before you Publish

It is important to choose which journal you publish in carefully to maximize dissemination, visibility and citations to your research.

Tools to help you choose which journal to publish in

Contracts with Publishers - The Copyright Transfer

The author owns copyright to scholarly outputs unless commissioned

  • When accepted for publication, publishers manage the process that determines how the research output can be re-used:

    • either Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) – where the publisher owns copyright and controls how you can use the output

    • or Licence – where the author retains copyright, specifying how others may re-use the output

Always check funder requirements to ensure that the journal you publish in meets their requirements.
