The author owns copyright to scholarly outputs unless commissioned
When accepted for publication, publishers manage the process that determines how the research output can be re-used:
either Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) – where the publisher owns copyright and controls how you can use the output
or Licence – where the author retains copyright, specifying how others may re-use the output
Always check funder requirements to ensure that the journal you publish in meets their requirements.
