Free service for UON staff and students to request items not in stock or scans from print stock. For non-commercial research or private study only.

Lending

We are happy to supply material to other libraries subject to the lending policy and conditions of loan below.

Requests must comply with current copyright regulations and be for non-commercial research or private study.

Requests for book chapters and articles can be sent through NULJ, RSCVD, WHELF+ or via email. Requests for physical books can only be received via email at the present time.

Lending policy

Physical items can only be supplied within the UK.

Please note, we are unable to lend physical items that are:

  • on a reading list
  • reference only (includes exhibition catalogues, illustrated books, journals)
  • 1 week loan
  • kits e.g. health kits
  • part of the school experience collection
  • part of the special collection
  • part of our media collection, such as DVDs
  • large or heavy items
  • in poor condition

Conditions of loan

Physical items are supplied on the following conditions:

  • The loan period for physical items is 12 weeks, however all items supplied are subject to recall.
  • No renewals are permitted.
  • No fines are imposed for late returns, but prompt return is appreciated.
  • All items should be returned using a tracked postal service.
  • Lost items are charged at the cost for replacement.

Charges

UON is a member of NULJ, RSCVD and WHELF+ supplying digital only. There is no charge for requests supplied via these routes.

Loan charges for requests made via other routes are made in line with the current British Library prices, or at CONARLS rates if the requesting library is a CONARLS member.

UK libraries must include their British Library account number and request number. Claims for UK payments will be made via the British Library at regular intervals.
