Unless being hosted on a social media platform, all final edited videos must be uploaded into Kaltura MediaSpace. This is video storage provided by UON and Learning Technology have a guide on how to store and access your videos.
Any cuts / drafts of the video can be stored in your OneDrive or SharePoint, or in Kaltura, in case you need to edit it again in the future. You can export your stored files into the editing software of your choice. It is important to chose one storage location and stick to it, as moving video storage location can cause later problems. Have a naming convention for the files, such as a date and brief description, and if it is a draft.
All videos must be accurately captioned. Do not rely on auto-caption, they must be manually checked and corrected.
All videos need to have a transcript (for a scripted video, the script if followed, can become the transcript). Kaltura has a guide on uploading and managing captions.
Matching thumbnails and close slides help to reassure students that the videos are from your team, and will be relevant to them. The video must start with a standard opening slide with detail of the content. This can be decided in your team, an example is available below. This must also be the video thumbnail. Put a voice-over, reading the slide. All videos should close with a standard slide, example below. These can be useful for giving options for where to get help. Again, provide a voice-over for the written content or an interactive element if you are confident editing.
If the video is silent, or only has copyright free background music, it must be stated on the opening slide. Provide descriptive text of videos which have no dialogue audio or voiceover. Provide a full description of what is happening in the silent video. This must be provided to meet accessibility needs.
Videos with incidental music which breach copyright and will not be used or accepted. Example of incidental music could be music from an open car window when you are filming.
The use of acceptable music is explained in the ‘Record and edit a short video using tools available to you’ training.
You should add a collaborator to your final video in Kaltura, such as your line manager, who can take responsibility for it if you leave your role. You could also make someone else a co-creator. Kaltura have a guide on how to make others collaborators of your video.
All videos must be hosted in Kaltura so use can be monitored. Learning Technology have a guide on how to do this.
If you are using the video on a page, consider accessibility and embed it in a flexible box, that will grow and shrink with screen sizes. Kaltura have a guide on how to export the video in an accessible way.
