Padlet

Padlet is a media rich, easy to use, mobile-friendly, online 'digital canvas', which can be used for collaborative learning, or for individual use.  It is a great way to collect digital resources, for example as a mood-board.  There are many themes and layouts to choose from.  A variety of items can be posted onto a Padlet board, such as text, pictures, audio, videos, sketches, links, maps, and documents. No special software is needed, as Padlet is accessed via any web-browser; or the Padlet app.  

The university has a Padlet 'BackPack' site licence. This enables staff and students to create, and contribute to, an unlimited number of Padlet boards, which can also be saved and shared in various formats.  Padlet is integrated with NILE, and is supported by the Learning Technology Team.  Below is a screenshot to give you an idea of what a Padlet might look like:

How do I log in to Padlet?

 

1.       Go to      uon1.padlet.org       please make sure you type in .org

2.       DON'T type in your Username and password!  Instead, click the button  LOG IN WITH MICROSOFT 

3.       Select your University Office 365 account – click your UoN email address; enter your UoN password

4.       You are now logged into your University (‘Backpack’) Padlet account.
 

How do I create a Padlet?

 

  1. Log into Padlet
  2. From your Dashboard, click +  MAKE A PADLET  make a padlet
  3. Select the layout of Padlet you would like to set up (the descriptions are below each), or scroll further down to choose a template
     
  4. You are now in the 'Modify' panel.  The following steps are all in this panel, you will just need to scroll down!
     
    4.1  Add your own Title.
     
    4.2  Add a description (optional - though you could use this to advise students how to add a post)

    4.3 Choose a background wallpaper (you can click MORE for other choices) or Add Your Own
     
    4.4 Under 'Theme' you don't need to change any of the default settings
     
    4.5 Under 'Posting' and 'Collaboration' you don't need to change any of the default settings.  These are the ones I recommend, but change these according to your own preferences for the Padlet you are creating).  Setting New post position to LAST, means that the first post will stay at the top.
     
    4.6 And finally, you can customise the URL with a short name (I've set the one below as 'example') - this needs to be lower case, with no spaces.

     
  5. Click NEXT (at the top). You are now in the 'People & Privacy' panel.

    5.1 PLEASE set the Privacy to Secret
     

    5.2 Choose whether you wish those with a link to read only, or to Write (recommended).

     
  6. Click NEXT - and your Padlet is ready to start posting.
     

How do I add Padlet to a NILE course?

To add Padlet to a NILE course, first click the purple (+) icon, and then click Content Market:

From the Content Market, click Padlet:

After a few seconds, your Padlet account will launch:

From here you can select a Padlet you have already created, to work on; you can +Make a Padlet; or you can Open Dashboard.

Select the Padlet you wish to add, and a link will be added to your NILE site.

 

Students will click the Link (e.g. ‘Introduction to Padlet, in the screenshot above), then be able to view or write to the Padlet, depending on the rights you have given. Privacy settings should be set to Secret (not Organisation-wide!)

How do I use the Padlet app?

 

Open the Padlet app, then scroll down at the login screen, and choose Backpack/Briefcase User, then use uon1.padlet.org as the domain, and log in through Microsoft   (https://padlet.com/support/login_mobile)
