Padlet is a media rich, easy to use, mobile-friendly, online 'digital canvas', which can be used for collaborative learning, or for individual use. It is a great way to collect digital resources, for example as a mood-board. There are many themes and layouts to choose from. A variety of items can be posted onto a Padlet board, such as text, pictures, audio, videos, sketches, links, maps, and documents. No special software is needed, as Padlet is accessed via any web-browser; or the Padlet app.
The university has a Padlet 'BackPack' site licence. This enables staff and students to create, and contribute to, an unlimited number of Padlet boards, which can also be saved and shared in various formats. Padlet is integrated with NILE, and is supported by the Learning Technology Team. Below is a screenshot to give you an idea of what a Padlet might look like:
1. Go to uon1.padlet.org please make sure you type in .org
2. DON'T type in your Username and password! Instead, click the button LOG IN WITH MICROSOFT
3. Select your University Office 365 account – click your UoN email address; enter your UoN password
4. You are now logged into your University (‘Backpack’) Padlet account.
When you have created your Padlet board and you are ready to share it, you will need to get the sharing link. With your Padlet open, look for the arrow icon at the top of the menu on the right-hand side.
Firstly, you need to check the settings for anyone who clicks the link.
For students to be able to interact with your Padlet, Visitors (anyone with the link) = WRITER
Do not change Link Privacy this must be set as Secret.
Then, you will be able to pick the share option that works for you.
Click the first option to copy the sharing link. Please note you will not see anything happen. This has copied the link and is ready to paste into your PowerPoint and into NILE.
QR Code
Click on 'Get QR code' which can be added to your NILE site and PowerPoint slides for students to scan with their Mobile phone. This is the most useful when doing a Padlet activity in a face-to-face classroom session.
Open the Padlet app, then scroll down at the login screen, and choose Backpack/Briefcase User, then use uon1.padlet.org as the domain, and log in through Microsoft (https://padlet.com/support/login_mobile)
