RefWorks

A guide to using the RefWorks reference management software.

Exporting from databases

Most academic databases have an option to export references into different reference management programs, including RefWorks.

The exact steps to do this will vary depending on the database you're using, the sub-pages on this guide lists the most-used platforms and databases. If the database you're using isn't listed here check the help section to see if there's an option to export references.

When to use this option

Exporting from a database is a convenient way of adding references to RefWorks as you're searching for and identifying useful sources. It's best to add references to RefWorks as you find them on a database: if you need to add references for sources that you found previously it's often quicker and easier to find and export from NELSON or Google Scholar (<link to Scholar page>).
