Exporting from NELSON

To export a reference from NELSON to RefWorks:

1. Find the source you want to use on NELSON

2. Once you've found the source on NELSON, click the ellipsis option (' ... ')

3. From the options listed click the 'RW RefWorks' icon

4. This will open a new tab, if it gives you the option of which version of RefWorks to export to select 'Yes, export to the newest version of RefWorks'

5. Decide if you want to put your reference in a specific folder

6. Click 'Import'

7. Check the details of your reference by clicking it in RefWorks and checking over the details. If edits/corrections are needed click the pencil icon in the top-right corner to make these.

N.B. If you use the pin/My Favourites function on NELSON you can export multiple references at the same time. To do this log into NELSON and  click the pin/'Go to my favourites' icon. Either click the box to select all or manually tick the sources you want to export. Select the ellipsis icon (' ... ') and click the 'RefWorks' option.

When to use this option

Exporting from NELSON is the best way of adding references when your source is a book (print or electronic) or a journal article. If you're exporting the details of a book or eBook take extra care to check the details in RefWorks to make sure they are complete and accurate. If you're looking for a journal article and it doesn't appear in your results list you can try clicking the 'Include results without full-text' to see if it appears.
