A guide to using the RefWorks reference management software.

Exporting from EBSCO databases

EBSCOhost is a major platform that includes many popular databases such as Cinahl, Medline, Education Research Complete and Business Source Premier and others. All EBSCOhost databases have the option to export references directly to RefWorks.

Exporting individual references

1. Open the full record for the reference by clicking the title

2. Once you're on the summary page, click the 'Export' option on the right-hand side of the page

3. This will open the Export Manager'. Select the option 'Direct Export to RefWorks' and click 'Save' 

4. This will open a new tab, if it gives you the option of which version of RefWorks to export to select 'Yes, export to the newest version of RefWorks'

5. Decide if you want to put your reference in a specific folder

6. Click 'Import'

7. Check the details of your reference by clicking it in RefWorks and checking over the details. If edits/corrections are needed click the pencil icon in the top-right corner to make these.

Exporting multiple references

1. On your results list use the folder option to the right of the reference to save items to a folder

2. Once you have finished saving items to a folder select the folder view by clicking 'Folder' on the top bar

3. Click the 'Export' option on the right-hand side on the folder view

4. This will open the Export Manager'. Select the option 'Direct Export to RefWorks' and click 'Save'. You can use the 'Remove these items from folder after saving' option if you no longer need the records saved to your EBSCO folder 

5. This will open a new tab, if it gives you the option of which version of RefWorks to export to select 'Yes, export to the newest version of RefWorks'

6. Decide if you want to put your references in a specific folder

7. Click 'Import'

8. Check the details of your references by clicking it in RefWorks and checking over the details. If edits/corrections are needed click the pencil icon in the top-right corner to make these.
